When the Quiet Screams is an autobiography of Tiare Tuairau's life in poetry form. It speaks of the adversities she's faced and the healing process that followed. The book is dedicated to her grandmother, Poua Beaver, who passed away while the book was being written. Consequently, Poua's two namesakes--Tiare Tuairau and first cousin Katherine Beaver--carry her great legacy through their talents and creativity. "Years ago, Samoans faced disaster as a volcano erupted and destroyed all that they owned. Luckily, they escaped with their lives, but lost everything else. As they watched the lava flow down the mountainside, consuming their homes and plantations, they cried out "Aue Te Fefe--I am so scared."
